The text on this piece: "One-thousand four-hundred and five whales were driven ashore in Truro, Massachusetts in 1874 in the largest whale stranding in recorded history. Their bodies stretched along one mile of beach near Great Hollow and 27,000 gallons of blackfish oil were harvested". There are 1405 images of pilot whales in this piece. It is thought to be the largest stranding in North America in history.
